India completed a 2-0 series sweep against Bangladesh with a commanding seven-wicket victory in the second Test match. An incredible bowling performance by R Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja, which saw Bangladesh bowled out for 146 in their second innings, laid the groundwork for the victory.
India quickly met their target of 95 runs, even if they lost three wickets. Virat Kohli’s constant presence at the wicket and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s fast fifty-five guaranteed that India won in over an hour on the last day.
Bangladesh was 26 for two at the start of the last day, 26 runs behind India. Early in the game, the Indian bowlers, especially Jadeja, took charge of the outcome.
After quickly dismissing three crucial batters, Jadeja set off a collapse that saw Bangladesh go from a solid 91 for 3 to 94 for 7.
His dismissals of Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, and Najmul Hossain Shanto were vital in stopping Bangladesh’s advancement.
As the pressure rose, Litton and Shakib were removed in consecutive overs, and Shanto was bowled while trying a reverse sweep.
Although Jadeja had excellent bowling, other players also contributed to the damage. Jasprit Bumrah was also quite successful, concluding with figures 3 for 17.
Before lunch, he removed Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz from the team, cleaning up the tail.
R Ashwin also contributed three crucial wickets, including removing Mominul Haque, Bangladesh’s highest scorer in the first innings with an undefeated century.
Bangladesh’s failure to hold off India’s methodical bowling onslaught characterised their second innings.
The lone noteworthy player, Shadman Islam, scored fifty points before losing to Akash Deep.
However, Bangladesh could not muster much of a fight after his removal and the frequent loss of wickets. Bangladesh had a mere 94-run lead, meaning India would have an easy time chasing the game.
India launched an aggressive chase even though skipper Rohit Sharma was lost early. In an attempt to attack, Rohit mishandled a giant swing and was bowled out by Mehidy.
Next, Mehidy reduced India to 25 for two by trapping Shubman Gill lbw for only 6. But Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had performed admirably throughout the series, rose to the occasion again.
Bangladesh lost the match due to his explosive 51 from 43 balls, which included sixes and several boundaries. Because of Jaiswal’s assertive tactics, India never appeared in danger while pursuing.
Thanks to a 58-run partnership between Virat Kohli and Jaiswal, India nearly crossed the finish line.
Jaiswal miscued a shot and was caught with just three runs needed, but by then, India’s triumph was all but certain.
The chase was elegantly finished when Rishabh Pant entered and hit the game-winning runs.
With this victory, India’s lead in the World Test Championship point standings was further solidified.
The Indian squad displayed tenacity and tactical supremacy, especially in their bowling. The turning point came from Jadeja’s three-ball on the last day, and Bumrah and Ashwin’s combined efforts ensured Bangladesh never bounced back.
India’s hitters, headed by Jaiswal and Kohli, finished the job quickly and convincingly to give the side a convincing victory.
