Mohammad Rizwan, who will succeed Babar Azam as Pakistan’s next white-ball captain, will play his debut game against Australia’s world-champion 50-over team next month.
Following group-stage losses at the most recent ODI and T20 World Cups, Rizwan will be responsible for rebuilding the white-ball sides. Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, and Imam-ul-Haq will not be included in Pakistan’s squads for Australia’s six limited-overs matches (three ODIs and three T20Is).
Following Pakistan’s elimination from the 50-over World Cup last year, Babar resigned as captain of all three forms. He returned as white-ball captain for the T20 World Cup when his team was eliminated in the Super Eight. Last month, he quit once more.
However, Rizwan is now in charge. Although Babar, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah were dismissed halfway through the England series, they are all included in the white-ball squads.
“To be trusted with leading such a gifted and exciting group of players is a tremendous honour, and representing Pakistan internationally is the greatest privilege.” The cherry on top is playing with some of Pakistan’s most renowned limited-overs captains.
Despite never participating in an international T20 match, Salman Ali Agha has been selected as vice-captain. He will captain the T20 team on their tour of Zimbabwe, which starts in late November.
Babar, the world’s top ODI batsman, will be watched closely during the Australia tour because he hasn’t scored fifty in his last 12 international matches.
As they recover from injuries after disappointing performances in the Multan Test against England, where they gave up 1-120 and 2-157, respectively, the pace combo of Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah will also be attentively monitored. Their spinners have played a significant role in Pakistan’s eventual comeback in that series.
Aamir Jamal, Arafat Minhas, Faisal Akram, Haseebullah, Muhammad Irfan Khan, and Saim Ayub are among the ODI team’s uncapped players. Salman Ali Agha and Jahandad Khan make their debuts in the T20I team.
Abrar Ahmed and Azam Khan have been left out of the T20 teams, and veterans Hasan Ali, Imad Wasim, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Amir, and Mohammad Nawaz have also been left out.
The fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain, who took 17 wickets in the Champions One-Day Cup in Faisalabad last month, is also returning to the ODI team.
While playing for the Sydney Thunder in the 2022 BBL, Hasnain was called for throwing on his final trip to Australia. Four more players—Arafat Minhas, Haris Rauf, Haseebullah, and Muhammad Irfan Khan—have been included in the ODI and T20I squads in addition to Babar, Naseem, Rizwan, Salman, and Shaheen.
For the T20Is, Jahandad Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Omair Bin Yousuf, Sahibzada Farhan, Sufyan Moqim, and Usman Khan will take the place of Aamir Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Faisal Akram, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Hasnain, and Saim Ayub, who were only chosen for the ODIs.
The four players who will be in the teams from the beginning of the Australia tour to the conclusion of the Zimbabwe tour are Haseebullah, Haris Rauf, Muhammad Irfan Khan, and Salman.
According to Pakistan’s new selection committee, headed by Aqib Javed, the announcement of distinct squads for ODIs and T20Is would provide players with a clearer understanding of their roles and enable them to better manage their workloads.
After confirming their 50-over squad last week, which Pat Cummins captains, Australia is anticipated to announce their T20 team on Monday.
Muhammad Hasnain, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Babar Azam, Faisal Akram, Haris Rauf, Haseebullah Khan, Irfan Khan, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Rizwan, Aamer Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Agha Salman, Arafat Minhas, and Babar Azam comprise the Pakistani ODI team.
Jason Fraser-McGurk, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Cooper Connolly, Tim Abbott, and Xavier Bartlett comprise the Australia T20 team.
Abbas Afridi, Agha Salman, Arafat Minhas, Babar Azam, Haris Rauf, Haseebullah Khan, Irfan Khan, Jahandad Khan, Naseem Shah, Omair Yousuf, Sahibzada Farhan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sufiyan Muqeem, Usman Khan, and Mohammad Rizwan (captain) make up the Pakistan T20 team.
